Is it normal for doctor to request physical therapy before MRI?

Shoulder is inflamed but doctor scheduled MRI but said to go to physical therapy in the mean time. Wouldnt using the shoulder more, tear the labrum more or put in more pain if its serious?

It's normal it will be resistance bands at a low pull it won't hurt anything.

If it's so torn that the PT evaluation damages the shoulder it was already fricked

I have no idea, BUT...
I had tennis elbow before, which is an inflamed elbow tendon, and it hurts like hell, and the cure for it is physical therapy.

Nope. Very common. Depending on the severity of the labrum tear you may even be able to avoid surgery, or strengthen the shoulder to a level that will allow you to continue your daily activities.

Yes. Sometimes insurance companies won't pay or approve the MRI before u do "conservative" treatment. I've been doing X-ray, CT and MRI for 11 years. Not a brag just an opinion that's been in the biz.

Yes, You have to understand that the doctor is working in the confines of your insurance and must prescribe treatments that will be beneficial to you and paid by your insurance. Based. Off of the initial office exam if he believes your really messed up he would not have prescribed physical therapy!
FWIW: did you ask if he was a consultant to the physical therapy company? Dats why you got therapy baw

You better be the radiologist or this statement is hilarious.

There aren't many Physican Owned PT clinics in BR. All the good/major outpatient clinics are independently owned.

None of the big outpatient clinics in BR are MD owned, unless something has changed recently.
I mean I know BR Ortho and Neuromedical have PT's on staff but I wouldn't call either of those big outpatient clinics.

BR ortho, bone n joint, neuromedical, anything with the word advanced all of which have multiple locations , off the top of my head, and those are the ones that are on top of the table, and while they don't advertise much it is just because they don't have to, but when it comes to volume , it is the lions share

Bourgious pt in prairiville made me a believer. It's something you want to begin asap.
Posted on 2/14/17 at 6:52 pm to shoelessjoe
Yes it is absolutely normal.
Posted on 2/14/17 at 6:53 pm to shoelessjoe
Yes absolutely. An MRI is an expensive, time consuming test thats unneccessary unless there is concern of something a proper PT and history couldn't illuminate.

I'll just say you don't know what you're talking about, at least regarding one of those operations
