My buddy has a rental property in Metairie he is renovating. I went out there today to help him and he was bitching about several cars parked on the lawn between the street and sidewalk, as he couldn't keep the grass alive. I told him to leave notes on the cars, asking they not park on the grass, but he says it's legal they do so. I call bullshite. What say you, OT code experts?

It is not legal. I have gotten a ticket for it. It is also not legal to block the sidewalk. I have also gotten a ticket for that

I need more information. What is a hell strip? I've grown up in the metro area my whole life and never have heard of this. Perhaps a ms paint picture would help.

That's what I figured. I think it's pretty universal that once you leave the road (excluding a driveway) to park, you're ticketable.

My expert opinion is that no rental property is nice enough to worry about a tuft of grass that is dead right now anyway

Same here. I've always known it as the servitude.

Bury a couple of nail strips. They will only park there once.

Actually, I believe it is, and that the government just has certain rights to its usage.

Your friend doesn't own the strip of grass; however, he is required to maintain it. The property line usually stops at the sidewalk.

Growing up, we've always parked cars over that strip and never gotten a ticket doing so... Matter of fact, my father concreted it back in the 80's...

No.. It's the other way around.

Most property lines end at the side walk but its the property owners responsibility to maintain the sidewalk and grass strip.

As far as I know, its not illegal to park in it.

Yep, if it is they don't enforce it. Just drive down Oaklawn between Metairie Road and West Esplanade, everyone is parked like that, and I've never seen tickets on those cars...
