Is drinking hard liquor i.e. whiskey a good weight loss alternative to beer?

I don't know what kind of calories are in a bourbon whiskey but I have to assume that it would be less than beer, especially considering it takes significantly less bourbon to get me buzzed than beer.


Is that stupid?

Might be less calories, but the extra alcohol probably isn't good for your liver. If you want to drink alcohol, drink red wine. I hear it's good for your heart.

just don't overdo it. alcohol and weight loss don't really go together.

In some cases hard liquor can be worse than beer. I'm pretty sure whiskey is worse than Ultra. Because just about all hard liquor breaks down to pure sugar. Rum is the worst.

No alcohol is the best answer. It's the sugar in it that is the problem. When I drink, I'll usually go vodka/cranberry or gin/diet tonic because the caloric impact is less. I'm a light weight also so 3 or 4 of those for the night and I'm good.

I always use diet coke... Mix is smoother, not as sweet, hangover isn't as bad, and the way the alcohol mixes with what's in diet coke instead of normal coke makes it taste better IMO.

Sprite zero or coke zero is cool with me. I'm Cajun/German, drinking is engrained in my soul.

with the amount of Michelob Ultra that I have to drink to get me drunk, it doesn't matter that it's low calorie.

Not sure of all the specifics, but I know it won't help if you're drinking full calories sodas with it.

just don't over do it. Both will add fuel to your hunger pains. I got off beer years back and switched over to vodka. it actually helped imo

I switched to doing Maker's rocks/splash of water earlier this year, do this about 50% of the time as a substitute for beer...

69 calories/serving, usually I'd get 2 or 3, then switch to 95 calorie Mich Ultra (1 or 2)...This instead of drinking 5-7 Abitas/Magic Hat #9's/hefeweizens (avg 125-150 cals per beer)

To sum up: 400 calories < 750+ calories

Lost about 10 pounds early on, hard to lose much more without switching diet habits, but kept that 10 pounds off pretty well.

You'd likely be better off doing Gin or Vodka, but I can't enjoy those as much as a good bourbon.

I'd rather get drunk on red wine before beer on almost any day.... exception being gameday.
