My understanding is that it's more of two things.

1: telling people to just suck it up apparently hurts feelings.

2: people are just blowing most things out of proportion as usual.

Basically bullying will always exist. Certain people will always be superior at athletics. People will be more attractive. People will be genetically gifted. People people will be smarter.

The idea that everyone is awesome just isn't true. Some people are just destined to suck at life. Not trying to be mean but if you can't tell that about some people, you should really come out your bubble.

With how easy it is to broadcast something online to the entire world.....I could see how bullying gets much more vicious than when we were kids.

Back then you do something embarrassing the kids at your school tease you for it. You can at least escape it once you go home.

Now.....that embarrassing thing you did is all over YouTube, FB, instagram, etc, etc. People all over the world tease you for it. Strangers make numerous online mean comments that are tough for a child/teen to read about themselves. That video is online forever and could pop up to embarrass you years later.

Yea, I'm sure my college aged kids are worried about snitching on some high school bullies from 4 years ago.

The worse bullying I ever saw was in middle school. Kids were freaking ruthless to the nerdy and disabled.

A lot of it is on social media now. It's a lot easier to bash someone when you don't have to look them in the eye. To make it worse twitter does nothing about it. I see people get death threats on Twitter all the time and they do nothing. They won't even ban the accounts. I don't really want the government involved in Twitter but I'm OK if they call them out for sitting on their hands.

My wife is a professor at a university and one of collateral duties is to investigate "code of conduct" violations. Their pansy arse code of conduct specifically uses the term "bullying", which drives us nuts.

If a 21 year old is making fun of another 21 year old, it's not bullying. When you're an adult, it's called "being an a-hole" and it shouldn't be investigated. We're not in middle school.

If there's violence involved, it's still not bullying, it's called assault and the police should be called or the "victim" should nut up and get even.

You couldn't pay me a million dollars to relive my middle school years. Kids are just evil at that age, especially girls. Everyone wanting to fit in so badly that mob mentality will take over if another kid is marked as "less cool" than them.

That's true for people of all ages these days.

I'm sure glad there wasn't social media around in my teens and 20's.

Just out of curiosity what specifically made it so bad? Whats the worst "bullying" that happened to you and worst you've seen done to someone else? Interesting to hear from girls perspective

A lot of bullying these days is done not only in person but via social media. It is and always has been a problem and it's exacerbated now by the fact that a person can be bullied without being in the same room as the bully.

If you're claiming you've been "bullied" on social media then you deserved it. Jesus Christ...

I had a bully in the 7th grade. It was a black kid who routinely attacked me, always with a few others to back him up. One day in class, he put me in a choke hold right in front of the teacher. I stabbed him in his neck with my pencil, sending him to the hospital. The bullying ended and I was a bad MFer for quite a while after that.

My son will be there in a couple years and I'd be lying if I said it doesn't concern me a bit.
