Is an open marriage a sign of strength or weakness in your relationship?

Jealousy is a weakness and trust is a strength. So if your SO trusts you and is not jealous that is a sign of strength. However being bored and tired is not good. If your SO needs a change and is just trying to play it off like it will be a good thing, look out.

I wish we could ban a person from making threads by board consensus.

How about just not get married?

In like 1 percent of relationships that try it, it works.
Most are the result of someone not understanding they want a divorce.

Or just be friends with benefits...? Never understood open relationships. They seem pointless. Looks like you're just looking for a title to have.
And to answer your question, it's a sign of trashiness

It's a sign that the relationship is already over. The ink may not be dry on the divorce, but it's over.

One could argue that trashy folk just cheat. It is more sophisticated arrangement than what a trashy dude could arrange.

It's just two people acknowledging they cheat on each other. It's just a formal way of cheating. You can polish a turd.....
Bottom line: TRASHY

Neither necessarily. It's a sign of different values.

An open marriage is a marriage that is built far too much on sex and is highly likely to fail because it needs more to be stable. I've known of only one open marriage that's lasted and it was reeeeeally open (guy would yank it in the corner while watching his wife rolling around with other guys and gals).
It works for them somehow but they are by far the exception.

Just because you put your garbage in a scented trash bag, doesn't make it not trash.

Probably. I do think that it could, in theory, work for some people.
