Even if I felt that way, which I don't (I've been to Atlanta hundreds of times and never had any problems), I'd be too proud to admit it. It seems sort of woman-like.

The "I dont feel safe" phenomenon may be part of the blurring of gender roles in America and the neutering of the American male.

Because it’s illegal to defend yourself now. They locked up that poor kid that was just defending himself from the scary hobo and it’s been all downhill since

Not knowing how to properly assess risks doesn't make someone more masculine. If your argument is that irrational fears make someone less masculine you might have a point. There is nothing feminine about feeling uncomfortable on foot in holly grove after dark.

I stay in Youngsville. Don’t need anything more than cold beer, good fishin’, and a night out at Agave.

I don't feel safe in cities. I've had my fill of being hyper vigilant.

I'll keep my happy arse on my land or on the lake.

I think saying you feel safe in New Orleans just makes someone sound stupid.

Not directing this at anyone.

That’s not why. It’s the people that don’t enjoy cities or can’t afford it. It’s an easy out to say “I fear for my family safety”

I can't think of a single time when I lived in New Orleans that I felt unsafe. Now, there were definitely many times where I was probably in an unsafe situation, but I never felt that way.

Hell, I took a wrong turn on my bike once and rode through Central City at like 2am, but I was too drunk to feel unsafe

Fearing something is not what establishes your "manliness", it's how you address the fear that determines the type of man you are.

Have you been to New Orleans? Do you think there is crime around every corner at every time of the day? There are unsafe situations that you can put yourself in, but when we go now we typically stay Uptown and there's no reason not to feel safe walking around Uptown during daylight hours.

No; wanting to avoid certain cities is the intelligent thing to do.

Also have you ever heard of the minefield fallacy?

Found myself at 2am on MLK Blvd in Milwaukee about 10 years ago, wouldn't do that again.
