People that believe in estate taxes have never been on the receiving end of it.

I believe in estate taxes, and I received a substantial inheritance two months ago.

So you received an 8 figure inheritance recently and are cool with the govt taxing it when whoever died giving it to you?

At least it will go a long way in helping pay down the national debt.

Oh, shut the frick up, you sanctimonious, condescending cocksucker. Nobody gives a shite what tax bracket you're in. And everybody understands what taxes are for, and almost everyone agrees we should pay them (how much and for what differs, obviously). But the estate tax is redundant and double-dipping at the very least, likely more than that.

$7 billion on a $17.5 billion estate is outrageous on its face, even if that $17.5 billion had somehow never been taxed. But the estate owner paid income taxes, sales taxes, property taxes, and whatever other taxes/fees come with having accrued that amount--hell, they could have already paid an estate tax on this same estate, depending on who it is and how much of that they inherited and when. I understand the need for taxes. I understand the need for federal taxes. It's the double, triple, and quadruple taxing of the same money that I find offensive and hard to marry to the "American Dream" that theoretically motivated somebody, somewhere up that ancestral tree the ability to attain an estate so large in the 1st place.

an 8 figure inheritance

How many people receive this, top 2%, 1%? Do we care about them? Are we really afraid that they can't stand up for themselves against the evil government and they need the help of the working class? Really?

I'm sure they appreciate your heartfelt sentiments.

It doesnt matter how many there are. It shouldnt happen. Why should the guy down the street be taxed when he dies and you arent taxed when you die?

Why do people act like that's illegal or immoral or some shite? Isn't sales tax "double taxation"? You've already paid income or capital gains tax on money you use to purchase goods and services that you are charged a sales tax for. Did the retailer not pay a inventory tax on some of the goods he charges sales tax on? Whatever gave people the idea that just because their money has been taxed once, it can't be taxed again?

Many of the examples being used involve different taxing authorities (state & local) or completely unrelated transactions (sales, inventory, etc) with 3rd parties.

The federal govt taxing income and then again inheritance has all the makings of double dipping. The inheriting party will be taxed on any subsequent gains or other taxable events once in their possession but the money has already been federally taxed prior to the original earner's death. The sheer act of passing already taxed wealth to another person and generating another taxable event in itself is established only because it's in the tax code. It is double dipping in my opinion.

Im just gonna start referring to you as BKDS.. because you are exactly like someone with TDS, except im the one living rent-free in ur tiny brain .

For the record, i never said- in my extensive post history that you are absolutely OBSESSED with- that im not a high-earner.. just that my money goes much further overseas and i have many issues and grievances with America and its bullshite in 2024.. but i continue to pay taxes in the USA since i understand that’s how shite works, and i dont whine and complain about it like some little bitch with a skinned-up knee, which many posters here, like yourself, tend to do .

The question in the first place is why should anyone inherit anything that they didn't work for? Something for nothing, is that what you're arguing for?

They cant.

Now you're just being ridiculous. I'm pretty sure anyone in the 1% can petition the government - aka pay off politicians - to air their grievances while they're still alive. The thing is, most people in that tax bracket have enough money to pay accountants and tax attorneys to get around major tax expenditures. Look at how Trump's father transferred wealth to Donald that he never earned, and didn't have to pay inheritance tax on. The dead person in the OP either made a mistake, or just didn't GAF.

It is their property.

Why shouldn’t someone be allowed to give their own property to whomever they wish?

who gives a frick if they can stand up for themselves or not. The government has no right to any of their inheritance. I don’t see how anyone could think this is ok. They just don’t have the same viewpoint on how inefficient the government is I guess
