Unfortunately, they are able to get people, particularly the elderly or young people (college age, teens). It's sad that people resort to scamming for money, but that's the world these days.

I received one of these one time in which the phone number that showed up on caller ID was the real phone number for the Birmingham, AL police department. When I called the number back, it went to the real police department. Anyway, they told me I was being charged with a crime by the IRS and that all of this could be resolved if I would make a credit card paymnet over the phone.

Just called as well asked if this was the irs. He says no I'm like I'm sorry I had the wrong. He says wait yes, I say yes this is the IRS went back and forth and then it gets quiet he asks who is this? While I'm telling him I have a very special set of skills he hangs up. Pretty funny, Google Bainbridge Island scam been going on since 2014

You can report suspected scammers to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) at 800-366-4484 or at www.tigta.gov.

Small talk asking them about the weather in D.C. Ask them how much you owe. Shuffle papers saying you're looking for your bank account number that you are going to give to them for an uncomfortable amount of time. Then drop, 'oh thanks my buddy who works for the FBI is tracing this call to get your location'

Got that call a few weeks ago. I played it out with the Paki idiot to the point where he told me I had to make a down payment by going to Dollar General and purchasing a Visa pre paid card. Hahahaha. I'm sure the IRS uses pre paid Visas for collecting money.

Usually at least a year after the filing deadline too. I've always wondered if they would send you a check for an underpayment if their system caught it.

I received a letter from the IRS saying that they reviewed my paperwork and had determined that I had overpaid. They asked if I agreed with this or did i want to appeal their determination.

I signed the paper that said I agreed with them, sent it back and was promptly send a check.

I got a similar call a couple of weeks ago from a Dallas area number. The guy had a Spanish accent. When I called them back I told them I was at an IRS office turning myself in but they had no record of me being in trouble. They guy hung up on me. I called back twice but my number had been blocked.
These are the lowest of the low.

It amazes me that there's enough people out there that's dumb enough to fall for scams this day and age.
