I don't get paid to have the answers and again I'm getting attacked for suggesting that blaming the victim is a poor excuse.

You all realize that New Orleans wasn't always like this right?

My first thoughts are that the community actually had to care. There are several communities in the US that finally have enough and start organizing.

Oh ok. I'll get right on changing generations upon generations mindsets.

The second is police corruption is easy out of hand. Now I don't know if federalizing the police force is a good idea, but it needs to be considered and debated.

The police force needs a major overhaul but you need money first. The city of New Orleans doesn't have the funds to properly man the police department. That's largely due to the lack of tax dollars that come in. Which all goes back to having such a large indigent population.

a better idea is getting the police force to number of officers its supposed to have, around 1600. They are over 400 short now. That's pretty huge in this equation.

The more that comes out the more it looks like this victim 100% put himself in this position. Personal responsibility goes both ways.

The world is a drastically different place than it was 50 years ago.

New details....

quote:

The vacationing Irish police officer wounded in a shooting early Tuesday morning told New Orleans investigators he accompanied a stranger into the 7th Ward in search of a place to drink, the NOPD said.

quote:

Hanrahan reportedly was in the United States visiting his father, a Missouri resident who reports said accompanied his son to New Orleans. But according to New Orleans police, Hanrahan was only with an "unknown subject" who led him to the 2200 block of New Orleans Street around 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

Gamble said the victim told police he "met an unknown subject who brought him to the area after telling the victim that he knew of a place where they could get a drink." It was unclear where Hanrahan had met the stranger.

Hanrahan told police he first went to an ATM and withdrew $200, but the reason for the transaction was not explained. According to Gamble, when the two men reached the location on New Orleans Street, the victim "encountered an unknown male who asked him for money. When the victim refused, he told police that the suspect shot him and took his money. The suspect then fled on foot."

sounds to me like he was looking for a blow job

People are more concerned about a black guy getting shot by a policeman in another city than of any of the robbing and shootings here.

If it wasn't so hard to find a drink in this town maybe this wouldn't have happened.

After seeing the updated details, there are three possible explanations:
1. Dumbest cop in the world.
2. Looking for drugs.
3. Both.

Why is this so funny? Since you're a cop, you throw out some suggestions. It's funny that I get attacked both ways by people not offering anything constructive up. Let's just watch New Orleans get destroyed from within and crack open a beer and party.

Yat, I've worked in the low income areas of New Orleans and Baton Rouge and the vast majority of those people are honest hard working people that simply don't make enough money to leave. They are also looking for a leader, but not like the Sharpton leeches of world. Someone needs to light a fire in those communities.

Agreed but I can guarantee that they won't listen to any of us.
