Most refineries can process shale oil. In fact, the most ancient, basic refineries can process shale oil. It's light and sweet, and internal combustion engines can run the lightest grades of shale oil without any refining.
Our most advanced refineries were originally designed to process very heavy crude from Venezuela and Saudi.
What would flow in the Keystone XL is upgraded bitumen, mixed with lighter crude from Alberta and North Dakota.
The ability to mix light north Dakota Bakken crude makes it much easier to transport bitumen via pipeline. So yes, the Keystone would be transporting plenty of north dakota Bakken oil, and likely some crude from Colorado and Wyoming as well.

Po ole Mary couldn't get that bill through the Senate.

well the lines are flushed every time a new batch is shipped so it doesnt matter. Plus I think the KS Pipeline project failed today to garner votes. It is a shame too. would generate huge employment and taxes in every state, but the Gulf particularly
