I believe there are roughly 65,000 bars/taverns in the US and around a 750,000 to a million officers.
Might as well station one at every bar offering free breathalyzers, a public phone, and taxi business cards.
Certainly seems better than letting a drunk driver get on the road then surprising them with 5 police cars with lights flashing around a blind curve in the road.
Won't bring in a ton of revenue but it'd save a life or two I'd think, right?

It's not like they go up to random people demanding ID's. Its the people that are doing stuff out of the ordinary that raise questions.

That may be the party line, but drunk driving rates have been steadily decreasing, while getting easier and easier to become "drunk".
Tell me, why step up enforcement and make it easier to get a DWI if the roads have gotten safer?
Serious questions are you in favor of mandatory interlock devices for all cars, and a .05 limit? MADD is.
Just imagine all of the " drunk drivers" they can get off the road if they can push their agenda hard enough.

Good idea. I'm all for it.

No. It's a money grab under the guise of "saving lives." I could have two beers, not even be buzzed, go through a checkpoint, and boom, I'm fricked.
I think your sarcasm detector is broken.

did you watch the video?
Yes.
There are a multitude of videos of this nature of citizens getting into it with law enforcement for not cooperating during a DUI check point.

You are missing the point. Go review the 4th amendment and then re-read what you just wrote. The point is that people shouldn't be stopped for doing nothing at all and then have to prove their innocence.

This x10000000000000. God forbid that a cop has to do a little work to find the drunks at night instead of harassing 5000 people to get 1.

I never get why people default to, "just do what the cop says and you will be on your way."
Why not say, "if the cop did his job correctly, he could have been on his way without issue.?"

This might work until one of the cops bust your taillight with his flashlight and then says he needs to give you a ticket for taillight infraction.

I can't be sure because I haven't read our code recently...but I don't think you are legally required to sign in this state.
I'm, never had a reason not to sign. If I got a ticket, I fricked up.
White privilege: the ability to admit to wrongdoing.

If you aren't drunk, then why not just cooperate with the cops, it will make everything go much smoother, get through the checkpoint much faster, and be on with the rest of your night.
You are the problem

Because there are cops that lie, cheat, and steal.
Now if you refuse they can take your blood. Just think about that for a second.

Last time I checked it was .08

No one has posted my favorite rant (Baton Rouge example). While all the resources spent on these checkpoints are being deployed in high crime areas like Corporate Blvd and Perkins Road in hopes of finding a few drivers that admittedly have a low percentage chance of being involved in an accident, a few miles away, other Baton Rouge citizens are being exposed to gunfire and other violent crimes that statistics prove can be moderated by additional law enforcement presence. I'd like to know, just in the Baton Rouge area, how many murders are committed each year versus the number of drunk driver related fatalities. I certainly don't condone driving while impaired, but to represent these checkpoints as anything other than fund raisers/money grabs is laughable.

Some people feel their rights are being violated. They don't want to just roll over and take it, I don't see the problem.
It's ok for the cops to hassle innocent people, but not for innocent people to stand up for themselves?

Same things as those D-bags on youtube who walk around carrying an AR15 just to get cops attention, and refuse to give them their ID's, when asked to show it. Makes the rest of us gun carrying citizens look bad.

because that makes too much sense and many people are just bitter/angry looking for a reason to argue and bitch and moan.
Yeah, screw Constitutional rights!
We should also make all the Jews wear like little stars of David on their clothes just so we can ID them. I don't know why they'd complain if they have nothing to hide. It would make everything go smoother.
