I made $14 an hour working for a landscaping crew one summer. More than I've ever made at any other part time job.

A food service or bar tending job will allow you to be off daytimes for interviews.
Whatever you do, stay busy. An extended period of unemployment doesn't sound good to a prospective employer.
Network.
Use linkedin or other social media to stay in touch with people in your field. You might find a job with a supporting company that will put you in touch with PE on a daily basis.

I'm thinking a manual labor gig with a landscaping company. They're always short handed in the spring.

Yeah. I don't get why people say they're in between jobs when they are really just unemployed.
