It's not just New Orleans; go to any big city and it's the same thing. You put up nice things and trash finds a way.

This is arguably one of the most retarded things I've seen posted on this board.

Adding more greenery

There is almost zero greenery in that city. Have you seen what they did to hermann park? Most green space has been turned into some lame golf course.

Unfortunately, this is where you're about 80% wrong. In NOLA, probably closer to 90%. It's sad but there's really nothing that can be done. Gotta learn to love it.

What's good about living in New Orleans?

Other than the shitty streets I can't think of a bad thing.

Crime and statues don't alter my current life

hate to be the one to bring up the statues, but it was so fricking emblematic of let's just be 21st century "progressive" everywhere!

Those statues really added nothing to the city

I would be the first to admit that we are in a decline in NOLA right now, but it started 12 months ago and was preceded by a decade of growth and progress. The CBD with enhanced living, dining and entertainment options is better than it's ever been.

Also roads still suck, but some of the primary roads I travel everyday have been or will be repaved in the next year (st Charles, Jefferson, Napoleon, Magazine, Louisiana). Also huge drainage upgrades are underway uptown.

Progress is slow but is being made

What makes you say that?

I have seen one study that showed basically a balance of people moving in and out. It didn't specify income class, so I don't know what to make of it

Maybe. My point had more to do with the mindset behind removing them. The empty scarred pedestals certainly look like shite.

I was not talking about population per se, more about "momentum" and the physical aspects of the city. The CBD has seen a ton of multi-family & hospitality development, which have created the potential for a great live, work, play environment.

I see momentum slowing and a general pessimism in the business community that was not there 3 years ago, when people were bullish on growth prospects for the city

You probably think those are the only blank pedestals around the city.

Houston rates first among the nation’s 10 most populous cities in total acreage of parkland and second
behind only San Diego in park acreage per capita, according to a 2007 study by The Trust for Public
Land. Houston has 56,405 acres of total park space, with 27.2 acres per 1,000 residents. The
national average is 18.8 acres per 1,000 residents.

The City of Houston maintains more than 100 miles of hike and bike trails

Probably more of a statewide business observation than just NOLA.

Not sure what that refers to pr where these parks are in the city. 90% of those "parks" are golf courses. Sabine park is very small and hermann park is being over-developed
