O'Neill piano on Perkins offers group lessons or you could get the name of a private teacher through them. Am no longer in Baton Rouge and have not really been at piano since the death of my son 11 years ago. I just don't have the interest anymore. Steinway grand just sits alone. Will sell one day.

Good for you man. Not at all a bad skill set to have in your repertoire.

I can play the guitar (just barely out of the non-suck stage), and the piano (if I played it every now and then, I'd be barely out the non-suck stage/was there at one point in my life years ago). I saw in the thread where you're married, so I realize this is not really applicable to you, but I tell younger dudes all the time - learn the play the piano. I met more women by being able to sit down at a piano and playing few tunes than I ever did at the gym bench pressing (for me) a lot of weight. I've never been able to read music, so just before Christmas, I'd generally "brush up" a little bit. Nothing like a Christmas party, tipsy wiminz, and a piano - if you can play it.

My condolences. Perhaps one day you will decide that it might just be one of gods greatest gifts and earthly blessings and the songs you played many years ago, while painful just might be music to your ears again. Music really is good for the soul I believe.

I've had many losses in the last 24 months and realize there really are no words. I wish you peace. I will contact O'Neil's and give it a try and use this thread as an inspiration as it seems I'm not the only older adult male that would like to learn.

My father in law is early 70's, lives on his farm in Texas and is country as can be. Having Thanksgiving dinner at my wifes grandmother one year after we ate I heard someone playing the piano and just thought it was really nice to hear. Walked around the corner and he was sitting with one overall strap undone just beating away. 25 years of marriage and I had never once even known he could play.

Keep practicing, chicks go absolutely nuts for a dude who can play piano.

I started playing when I was in about 3rd grade. There haven't been many things in my life I've been exceptional at, but that was one of them. I was really, really good at piano. When I got to about 7th grade, it obviously wasn't "cool" to play piano so I quit. My older, wiser self really wishes I hadn't.

Good for you for wanting to pick it up.

I tried youtube too but most videos assume you have a certain level of skill already; but I don't.

Why has this not been moved to Music or Soccer Board?

Cause it's not about music it's about the off topic of learning a new skill.
