25, at least for dudes with half a brain, tends to be that universal age where we kind of realize how stupid actions can screw up your life unnecessarily.

If a guy has rage and runaway ego should I respond with violence that is not in my best interest? Yeah- no.
Just diffuse the situation like all the successful people who are in control of their emotions do. Don’t be a first punch guy.

Just smile, laugh, and nod your head.

I don't know about that, I did some trashy stuff in college and post-college
I don't know how it is with yall in Louisiana going to Prop Stop at 14 and shite
Yeah good point, I never had a fight after middle school but now that I think about it, I probably did end up in a couple of situations in HS that had the potential to go sideways.

I'd just laugh at his arse.

I'm generally a diffuse the situation kind of guy, but I would probably tell the dude to grow up and proceed to walk away.

Sorry......just realized this was military.
So in the bar situation, this is what you do.
Your friend just needs to say that he feared for his life and was protecting himself.
Case closed.

Kung Fu teaches us to FIRST, try to run away from the threat. That means do an about face and get away without saying a word.
Does that seem like a good solution to you?

25 is really the age where I started to feel bad about doing stupid stuff. And not just when shite goes wrong or I have to apologize to someone, but even when it didn't go poorly, but could have.
The whole "Dude you can't keep putting yourself in those situations" sort of thing kicks in hard early- mid twenties, at least for people who are going to grow up. Some never do, I suppose.

A friend of mine just got charged with assault for decking a dude who walked up to him aggressively in a bar. It was caught on video. The JAG and ADC agreed he was the aggressor by taking the first punch, even though the other military member walked up to him and got in his face
Open and shut case here. That's assault.
It's not against the law for someone to get in someone else's face.

Defend yourself but be nice

Turn your back on him and this causes one of two things.
1. Nothing more happens and situation difused.
2. He has to touch you to turn you back around, and you now have a physical act against you and the punch you land to his face (and repeated others) are all justified and legal.
I guess there's a 3rd, but it's just as good, down the road.
3. He sucker punches you from behind. Which makes him get fired, arrested, convicted AND you win a tremendous lawsuit against the establishment and him personally.
Bottom line, always turn your back in that situation.

In that case it should have been offsetting personal fouls with nobody ejected.

I was under the impression that when someone goes out of their way to get in your face and threaten you that he would be considered the aggressor or at the least both mutual aggressors. I guess not.
