Unless you kill 95%+ of the total population, it would never happen. There are very simple methods in blocking supply lines that I think we'd think through. The trains would be first, with us just blowing up the tracks right as it gets in sight, and then about 900 people storm the damn thing. The railroads wouldn't last long because of this.

The West Coast alone would be self-sufficient once occupied. They wouldn't need to worry about transcontinental logistics.

The underestimation of air superiority (superiority isn't even the right word because we don't have anything) in this thread is astounding. Especially by the military folks in this thread. No rules (except no nukes) and any type of semi-modern war planes and it would get out of hand before it even started.

They bomb the cities, they bomb the factories, they see people amassing, bomb em. Put up resistance, bomb your neighborhood.

At some point the most hardened Patriots would say enough is enough. The trade off of killing a few troops or holding up a convoy is your entire town getting leveled? March on through.

This.

It wouldn't happen overnight, but it would happen. Air superiority is such a trump card it wouldn't even be a battle.

Say we had all the plans for all of our current military hardware on a jump drive sitting in the president's desk. This happens and we bust it out. What's the timeline from the first bomb dropped on us to the first "anything that can knock a jet fighter or long range bomber out or the sky"? That's the timeline our attacker has to wipe our our manufacturing. Man, with a coordinated attack and some planning, they could take out any place that could build this kind of stuff within a day or two. (What I mean is, how many places can actually build SAMs? 50? 100? They can launch that many bombs in a few days, right?)

Also, we haven't talked about subs. Russia could roll them up right off of last island and start slingin missiles at whatever they please.

Can you imagine American Millennials trying to fight a war? They'd be getting blown up while trying to take selfies for Instagram with their assault rifles.

Why wouldn't the United State of America have a fricking military? Jesus.

Bc it's a hypothetical. Come up with your own if you can't hand this one.

There is a reason why other nations are hesitant about invading this country.

Umm...those millenials probably fought in more wars than you have -- assuming you're in your forties.

God would protect the righteous, wouldn't he?

And who cares about the damn liberals, they'd get what they deserve, right?

In this stupid hypothetical situation I think the U.S. would surrender well before they could hope to be occupied. No way one country to occupy the us, it's way to damn big, with large and medium population centers spread too far apart. Even with an Air Force how many bombs would you have to drop to completely destroy the Los angeles area, an area covering thousands of square miles of dense population. That's not even including other west coast cities, there is no way to launch an invasion of all west coast cities simultaneously, because as soon as the first bomb dropped, the resistance would start. They can't simply bomb every tiny pocket of resistance or every small city, way to expensive.

FootballNostradamus - I have to ask, have you ever served in the military, particularly in a front line position?

I don't think you really grasp how difficult it is to actually conquer a country.

We were throwing JDAM's at Iraqi insurgents as late as 2009. We were stretching the hell out of all of our strategic assets (BCTs, RCTs, AF squadrons, carrier groups, etc, etc) to suppress a middling insurgency in a third-world country with no active military opposing us. China, Russia, et al do not have anything approaching what we have in air and naval assets.

An armed, motivated insurgency with 300+MM people would be impossible to put down unless you're willing to nuke the entire place (virtually not possible as we would still have control of American nuclear weapons). In fact no enemy force would be able to get past the mountain ranges on either side of the continent.

Tell me more about how we're doing/did whatever we want in Iraq instead of following rules. And how we're using all of our military might.

Tell me more about how we magically have nukes if we don't have a military.

Tell me more about how we're going to defend against air strikes.
