Romans would destroy the Seals. Wouldn't be close.

If you assume the Romans are completely fearless and willing to take 50% casualties without flinching, sure they could win. But I don't think you're giving enough credit to exactly how freaked out the Romans would be by shite like automatic weapons and grenades. They would literally think it was fricking Jupiter and Ares come down from Olympus to smite them.

And if the modern guys have night vision equipment, forget it. Romans are doomed.

If the Romans have Maximus to lead them, you are fricked.

During Vietnam this is exactly what happen. The Chinese sent so many troops south that they over ran the Americans and took back control of Saigon.

He's also implying that a "human wave" technique was employed by the NVA and VC (it wasn't) or that the North took Saigon from us (they didn't).

But other than that - nothing in his post about Vietnam was accurate....

Actually now that I think about it, their catapults, battering rams, flaming arrows, and dead bodies could probably disable a tank.
dude tanks can cruise at 45 mph.... no way a catapult or a battering ram would touch it.

Comes to mind for what? Are you implying that the Viet Minh used a "human wave" technique against the French at Dien Bien Phu?

Because that's not what happened. The French chose to defend a valley, not the high ground around it. The VM moved (at great effort) artillery up into the mountains and reduced the garrison by traditional, tried and true siege techniques.

Now, the Minh launched the occasional large infantry assault ("Beatrice" comes to mind) - but their massive losses were as much a result of French airpower and artillery superiority as they were direct infantry assault.

Nothing like what the Chinese did in Korea - sending thousands of men with hundreds of rifles into an assault...
