I'm actually not trolling. This is NOT a case where you are going to have a Cop/Black Victim split. I do not think you are going to see a single rational person voice any support for the shooter's actions. Yes, there will be some manufactured outrage at how he was taken alive, or because his dad gave him the gun, or whatever twitter comes up with, but you will not see average everyday people taking separate sides on this. My social media feeds on all sides of the political spectrum are destroying this dude, and there is a surprisingly low amount of conflict.

The thing that caused the tension in Baltimore, Mizzouri, Florida, and other places was the fact that a sizable portion of the country didn't see anything wrong with the cops actions. In this case, I think you would be hard pressed to say the same.

The trick will be whether the media and leaders let this process work as a healing process, or if they will drum it up to levels higher than anything we have seen previously. So far the people from the various parts of the SC government have said the right things, on both sides of the aisle. Maybe this is the issue that gets an actual healthy discussion about race and violence started, without the tension provided by previous instances.

Edit: People started fighting about the police shooting issues on the first page. I think I have too much faith in humanity.

It won't.

White people will all condemn it. Black community "leaders" will talk about how dangerous it is for black people in America with all these violent bigots running about. White people will ask why black neighborhoods are the most dangerous and why a white guy getting killed for a watch isn't as of a deal as a black guy getting killed for being black.

Both sides will talk past each other. Facts will be ignored. It's going to suck, hard.

You see something wrong with Michael Brown getting shot after he assaulted a officer and was charging him?

No you wont but on the flip side, you wont see a single rational black person voice any support for the police's actions even when they are beyond justified.

Mr. Gambini, that was an intelligent, lucid, well thought out objection... OVERRULED!

You know they aren't going to let this slide without pushing gun control or some other political narrative.

There was nothing wrong with the cop's actions in Missouri. He was defending himself. He was straight up lied about.

Florida is debatable, Baltimore is pending.

If a black had killed 9 white people in a church, would that be considered a hate crime?

Good luck with that. Sharpie and his racist ilk are already on the job.

I fail to see how I'm advocating for the shooter at all.

If he was also making comments about killing crackers and leaving someone alive to tell people they would.

I hope you're right and can see a scenario where positive things play out...

... I don't even want to think about the worst case scenario right now...
