I put my garbage out without the can---neighbors use can.

I've never bothered taking the can down to the road and just drop off the bags at road on way to work (fairly long driveway). My neighbors always use their can. Almost everyone I see uses a can. Just wondering why?
Cans do little to dissuade dogs from getting into garbage as all they have to do is knock them over. I've only once had dogs get into my bags on the 3 years I've lived here.
Also cans can get stolen. On windy days they get blown into street and either get hit or cause a ruckus. And finally, you have to bring the can home at the end of day---bags get dropped off and that's it.
It makes no sense to me

Because it's fricking tacky to have just a trash sitting on side of the road for one.
But you sound like the type that likes to post up on side of the road anyway and watch everyone in the neighborhood while sipping your cheap beer. So in essence you're pretty much trash.

Where I live, they won't pick up garbage if it's not in a can. Our cans must be bigger than the OP's g-can bc dogs can't knock our cans over.

I always use the garbage cans, with one exception.
We sometimes have to deal with medical waste where I work, and have these bright orange bags with a big biohazard symbols on them. I take one home on occasion and fill it up when I clean out the pantry or something and put it out on its own by the road, just to frick with the neighbors. Garbage dudes always take it, too.

Well in places outside of Mississippi the garbage collectors use robotic arms on their trucks, thus the can must be used. This is one of the many reasons. The others I'll let you discover on your own.

Well I'm living in the 21st century and the garbage truck has an arm that grabs the trash can and dumps it into the truck. So it's a one man operation and he doesn't get out of the drivers seat.
