Be proud knowing that you gave her a great life.

God bless you---I know how much it hurts

I had to put my best friend down in January. We had him for 13 years or so and he was at least 17 years old. I looked at pictures of him the other day and started crying. He was such a great dog, he went through a life threatening medical condition a few years after we got him, and beat that like the champ he was.

Been in your shoes. Hang in there.

The only time I've shed a tear in the last 15 years is when my wife was in the hospital and when I had to put a dog down.
It was hard at first, but I promise you'll only remember the happy times fairly soon.

One of the hardest things I've ever done but be proud you were there at the end, that's big boy stuff. Good luck with your Army career.

So sorry. They are really a part of the Family

I'm so sorry for you bro. A good and loyal dog is about as good as it gets. Never apologize or regret expressing your affection for your dog. I wish he would have been able to stay healthy and with you longer.

powerful words right there.
I stayed with mine until the bitter end.
I had his wounds healed, took care of his heartworms and had him in my life for almost 11 years.

This passage brought tears to my eyes.

I would suggest you not watch This

I have done it twice and both times I think I had the entire Vet staff in tears. I know the third time is coming soon.
However, all three friends had/having great lives because of my family. These three friends made our lives better.
It is ok. You did it right. It will get better.

I would apologize and boost his confidence with a few gracefully placed compliments over the next few days.

i did this as well.Very tough. Have the vet cremate her remains and deliver them to you. I did this and spread my dogs ashes at one of our favorite watering holes.
When its his time, his ashes are going in a small box. When its my time, box is going in the casket with me.

Prayers sent. Lost a cat I had for over 16 years. She had cancer as well and it was damn near as hard as losing my mom. It hit me for a solid week. I have some friends I haven't known for 16 years and I treat my animals like my family, so when they pass on, it is almost as hard. She passed away on our front yard and I think it was as peaceful as you can expect. She just laid down and quit breathing.

I had to do this in the last year as well. It was brutal. I decided it was selfish of me to let her suffer, so I finally did it. Remember the good stuff. Mine was mischievous and would do things like eat baseboards, try to bury poo in my bed, etc. At the time I was furious. Funny thing is now that she's gone, those are the memories that make me smile and laugh.

Had to do this earlier this year. Wasn't easy but it gave me a peace of mind knowing she wasn't suffering anymore

Sorry for your loss. 15 years is a good run for any pet.

Sorry to hear bud. One of the hardest things to do is feel them let go in your arms. Prayers sent.
