You're probably right. I'm speaking from my own experience.

I work an 8-5 now and I love it. My time away from work is my OWN time.

I think this is what most people don't get. In most jobs, you work from 8-5 and you're done. Teachers teach their classes all day, and then they have to grade papers and prepare their lectures. It's worse if you're a professor, where you have to grade, prepare lectures, research, and do various other committee work.

Teaching was the only job I've had where my work followed me home. That's why I quit.

My fiancee is a teacher. And I can promise you she works a lot more than I do. I'd much rather keep my full time job with only 2 vacation weeks a year over having all the off time she does. She probably averages about 3-4 hours a night doing school related stuff.

That's the thing if I'm actually "needed" I don't mind working an extra hour or two from home. Not to mention the pay would be better than a teacher's salary. Taking papers home to read and grade is just monotonous.

Working the drive-thu, yeah probably. Most professional jobs come with nights where you take work home or work longer hours. My dad is a high level official for a Fortune 500 company and he says his expectation is a 45-50 hour work week for his top employees given a normal week.

A high % of professional jobs require more than 40 hours/week.

I'm a second year staff accountant at a CPA firm. Even as a young professional without as any responsibilities, I bring work home from time to time (not including busy season when I work 60+ hours a week)

So are you saying that if youre actually needed, youll never have monotonous work?

or

That grading papers isnt something that is actually needed?

You have it backwards. You have been brainwashed into thinking that working 24/7 is normal.

It's almost as bad as the parents of shitty kids that pull the "frick, you mean the kids are HOME the next 5 days?".

Yes, the little frickers you produced are actually home for you to deal with.

Oh the horror. Do you know how many professionals take work home with them? I spend a few hours a night logging my case notes and recommendations. It's called being an adult.

Grading test and reading papers doesn't feel like I'm accomplishing anything. If I'm going to work from home on my time, I want to actually accomplish something I guess with a little more meaning or responsibility. Instead of trying to decipher what Ja'Vontrez scribbled down for an answer.

To answer your question. Yes, someone needs to grade papers. But I'll leave that for someone else.

1- No

2- Sounds like teachers should have picked a different profession if their job is so awful
