It would be nice if they somewhat matched, but I will sacrifice a little quality on the travel bag to make sure the briefcase is nice. Briefcase parameters are:
Leather
Darker brown(ish) although I wouldn't be against black if it meets the other criteria
Handle and shoulder strap (preferably detachable)
Big enough for laptop, second travel screen, plugs and typical work stuff (folio, pens, phone charger, etc)
More minimalist exterior (not a huge fan of a lot of big buckles)

I'd like to spend around $700 for both, with maybe $500 toward the briefcase. Other than looking as similar as possible, my only requirement for the travel bag is that it needs to fit in the overhead of an ERJ and bigger plane.

Don't get a briefcase. Just save everything to pdf, put it in the cloud, and use your tablet to access the pages.

TI-30 and a wallet from K-Mart.

In before "K-Mart sucks!"

I recently did away with my leather briefcase and went to a Titleist backpack

Briefcase is probably the wrong description. I use it only to eliminate backpack and roller style.

I need a bag for work. I don't use a tablet, and the second screen is a must.

I've got this one from Filson and I love it. They have several different ones to choose from.

Don't go with leather. I'd go with the ballistic nylon.

If you do a ton of air travel I'd go with Tumi or Briggs and Riley

Was hoping you popped in.

Man, I trust your opinion, but I just wasn't a fan of the Filson type fabrics. And it's probably dumb, but the optics of the leather appealed to me. I know that's not the best thinking from a durability standpoint. I'll look into both of those anyway.

I travel with my Saddleback briefcase and duffle bag. It meets all your reqs, but they're more expensive and have buckles.

ETA - Leather that gets used looks awesome and Saddleback has a 100 year warranty. They replace it if it tears/rips or a strap/buckle breaks.

B&R makes some high quality stuff. Going with a product that has a lifetime warranty is a must IMO. Who cares if it's a few hundred dollars more? You won't be buying a new bag every couple years, so you'll come out ahead.

This one is pretty damn close, but it might not be big enough.

That's the one I have. Next time we get together, I can bring it. I'm not sure if it'll fit your second monitor though,

It fits my MacBook, iPad, cables, etc. perfectly.

ETA - I have the medium. The large may do the trick for you.

I went with Tumi. I got all of my bags for about 75% off because of some CC points I had that are unusable for anything else

What size monitor? I'd want something with a harder framed exterior if I'm hauling that around

If I didn't have my Saddleback briefcase, I'd probably have a Tumi or B&R. You can't go wrong with a practically free Tumi thanks to points, though.

Looking at Tumi, they have some really nice stuff.
