I got a call from my aunt in mississippi that my paw paw just committed suicide this morning. He was real sick and had a internal staph infection in his lungs for 8 years and has been coughing up a lot of blood lately. He and my maw maw just came to visit us for me and my dad's birthday last weekend. He had planned everything out and paid for the funeral and left each family member a letter and left a letter for my Mawmaw his reasonings for doing this.my Mawmaw said in the letter after the doctors told him there was nothing they can do he had started planning this since august of 2013 and kept postponing it after Christmas and somebody birthday but I guess this morning he couldn't deal with it anymore. He was just tired of suffering and being in pain and the feeling of not being able to stop coughing day and night. He did not want to suffer anymore and have my Mawmaw constantly taking care of him. he didn't want to be a burden on her anymore and went to his condo they used to live and went to the community pool this morning and shot himself and fell in the pool. He had a iphone finder app on his phone and that's how they found him. It is the worst feeling in the world and I feel like crap. I feel so bad for my Mawmaw and my dad and my aunt the most. I just can't imagine how they are feeling right now. We are all here in mississippi and just trying to be strong for each other. Just keep us In prayers thanks

Sorry to hear. Sending good vibes to your family.

But try to see the positives in it if possible and he isn't miserable and suffering anymore. Sounds like he was of relative sound mind and made a thought out decision.

Eta; I hope that doesn't come off as cold or harsh. Not meaning for it to

Will pray for your family. That sounds awful--I wish doctors could have done a better job at providing relief for your paw paw as to maybe avoid this.

However, his suffering is over, and this is something he sought out to do for a reason.

Hang in there. His suffering is over, it's hard on the family but try to remember the good things, when he didn't hurt.

I am so sorry for your loss.

Your grandfather sounds like an incredibly brave man. And I would guess that he was the type to always take care of his family. A "fixer", right? Look at it this way: he went out on his own terms. He didn't waste away in a hospital bed. He didn't want his family to watch him die. I can respect that. He saw the reality of the situation and he made that choice for himself. He owned his death. I think it's beautiful.

My prayers are with you and your family and, of course, your grandfather.

While i'm sure it was jarring for you, it sounds like he lived a long life and really cared for his family.

He handled his business like a man and chose how he would leave this world, only after he took care of his other obligations. I can respect that alot.

Dude sounds like a man.

Respect his reasons, right or wrong. He wasn't going to take it out on his family anymore.
