They were only minted one year and represent the bicentennial.

But they are only worth $ 0.25. They seem rare because novices like me are taking them out of circulation.

I do that too. Same with 50 cent pieces and dollar coins.

The 50 cent pieces and dollar coins are being saved up to splurge on something later, not kept because of rarity.

These aren't rare at all. Have probably come across 1,000 of them in my lifetime.

I save them when I see them as well. I really don't know why but I've done it my entire life.
I was 7 in 1976.
