My fifth grade son was playing basketball at recess. He stole the ball from a girl and scored. She ran up behind him and hit him in the back of the head. He didn't hit her back as he knows better, but he did call her 'fat'. The fat comment gets him detention, but the fat girl walks away with nothing.

This got me thinking. Even 30 years ago when I was in high school, getting in a fight meant being suspended. But hit someone out of school and you go to jail. What am I missing here?

The USA is all about equality now. Your son can freely punch the fatty in the face.

I hate what our kids are being forced to go through. Good luck with that and good on you for raising him right!

You're lucky he didn't go to prison with that comment...the felon.

There are two different rules...time for a teaching moment.

I miss the days when the coaches ran the campus with an iron fist. Any foolishness was quickly quelled with a paddle and we were better off for it.

I hope your son gets in trouble but we all know how sizist hate crimes are handled by the criminal justice system

I talked to him and the teacher. There may be some back story I don't know about.
