I don’t believe the idea that herd immunity is impossible

Some are saying that the antibodies against SARS-COV-2 do not last very long in your body and do not stop you from catching COVID-19 a second time. Therefore, they say that herd immunity is impossible.
However, if that was really true, wouldn’t that mean that vaccines are completely useless? Vaccines work by introducing a deadened version of the virus, a piece of the virus, some proteins from the virus, or some RNA from the virus into your body so that your body triggers an immune response and produces antibodies that prevent you from contracting the disease in the future.
So what am I missing here? If herd immunity is impossible, then a vaccine is useless. That’s why I’m not buying into that bullshite about how herd immunity cannot be achieved.
People need to just learn to live with this thing. Wear your masks, practice social distancing as much as possible, and open all of our businesses back up. We will achieve herd immunity over time.

It was reported today that 2500 people an hour are being infected.
We should have herd immunity by 2022.
The new vaccine is not using a dead virus, but rather they are introducing components to change and trick the virus or something like that.

We can't even get test results back in a timely fashion, yet they can tell us how many people are being infected by the hour? That's just taking daily positives and mathing it.

They’re saying that people who had the virus within the last couple of months no longer have the antibodies needed to resist infection.
It’s not really feasible for everyone in the country to get booster shots for the vaccine like once a month if this is really true.

They’re saying
I think this is still an unknown.
People have to quit being so intellectually lazy. Cite your source and subscribe the info to that source.

Facebook will take care of that.

Fair enough. Good point

I keep hearing that herd immunity is impossible yet hospitals and blood banks are in high gear looking for plasma from those with positive antibody tests. Does not jive

I just watched a presentation from an infectious disease expert. She said there is ZERO evidence (not one confirmed case) of people being reinfected.
Also, there's more to immunity than antibodies. The T cells are more important. Researchers recently published a paper where they went and found people who had the original SARS in 2003. They found that all of them had T cells which made them immune 17 years later. Since this virus is very closely related to SARS-1, then the probability that people get long term immunity is good.

Antibodies go away...that's normal.
There's a B and T cell memory effect that provides immunity.
In addition, many people have natural immunity through prior Coronavirus infections (common cold viruses).
The herd immunity threshold is like 25% or so.
See....NYC, Sweden, Switzerland etc

I think you missed the point of what I was saying.
I was just doing the math. If people who caught Covid 19 in April or May are now able to be reinfected with it, then that is a very short time frame of 2-3 months. If that’s the case, then we should probably get the vaccine every one or two months in order to be safe from it.
Basically, it doesn’t make any sense and is not feasible.

You most likely can catch it again, but your immune response will be faster, better, more efficient.
Look up B lymphocytes and T lymphocytes. They’re known as memory cells that ignite the immune system in response to a known pathogen that your body has previously encountered even in the absence of IgG antibodies.

This number is about as useless as every MLB player who hits two home runs on opening day. OMGGGGG on pace for 324 home runs this year.

Or just accept the risk and live your life.

Every talking point that I brought up makes good rational sense. It’s not that hard to follow what I’m saying.
If you have any evidence to the contrary, then provide it. I’m open to being educated if you have evidence that indicates that herd immunity to COVID-19 is impossible.
I feel like some of you are missing what I’m saying. I’m arguing for the plausibility of herd immunity, not against it.
