I did not know credit card companies sold buying history to advertisers...

At least as rapidly and specifically as what just happened to me.

I just bought this juice:

And 30 minutes later, I had their ad on my instagram, with the exact flavor of juice. That is fricking wild to me. I thought they'd sell bulk customer data, but not individual with names and it link it that fast.

How is that possible? No, I've never googled that before, I am 100% certain.

They didn't buy it from the credit card company. They got it from the cookies on your computer.

That makes no sense to me.

How did a credit card transaction create any cookies on my computer that they could track? I didn't look up this juice on the computer.

I didn't even do that.

It was a silent, credit card transaction. No internet in between anywhere. Didn't use my phone either (although it may be listening, it didn't hear shite).

I open my phone, go straight to instagram, the 3rd image is the ad.

Nuts.

Your phone beamed the fact that you were standing in front of that juice display to an ad company that then served up an ad to you for it.

Everything you ever buy, sell, or do that involves anything electronic is recorded and sold to multiple companies and government agencies. Hell, the government even buys and sells your information.

All of these companies like Apple that say they are fighting the big, bad government for you know that their shite is already corrupted by multiple people. The government never needed Apple's perimission to get into your phone. They were already there. It was a publicity stunt.

There are programs that show you exctly who is looking at your computer. Random school boards, foreign governments, ad companies, etc. TD won't work if you run it though

You're right. The ad may not be a coincidence, but it 100% didn't come from the credit card information. They do not sell individual data.

I work in big data and yes, every single credit card transaction is bundled, bought, and sold almost instantaneously.

Here's one that is puzzling me though. I was talking to my dad over the phone (iphones) about buying a new tire for his 4wheeler. A few hours later, the front page of drudgereport had an ad at the top for the tires.

I never once typed in 4wheeler tires, googled them, etc. Nothing but voice.
