Old phone prank: I had a friend who owned a shop in Austin that restored and sold vintage Jaguar E types. He had me call up his sales manager and ask about a really nice E type that was for sale. My second question, in a ghetto voice, was "what be the monthly on that car?"

There was a prolonged silence before he said "we don't finance cars." My friend and I started laughing which blew up the gag call.

Last truck I bought, I found it on their website, texted with a sales guy, sent requested pics of my old truck, did the finance stuff over a zoom call/docusign, then went to the dealership that afternoon to swap keys. Super easy process.

Hopefully one day you can configure the vehicle you want off the manufacture's website and then get it delivered directly to you.

Not that hard to tell they lied initially hoping human, impatience would set in and they could dump a junker on you. It didn’t work, and they still sold you a truck and made money.

I had to buy a new truck in the shite show that was peak retarded Wu Flu pandemic. Lady t boned my 2019 truck in 2021. Totaled it. Worst buying experience ever.

Congrats on the new ride and the inevitable GM transmission change between 45k- 85k miles. I’m kidding, unless it’s a 18’- 21’. Yours is apparently a 2024 so you’ll be alright

My parents ordered a certain color car for me when I was in HS.

Dealership (champion ford on youree drive) got it in 4 months later and called so we left after school that day to go get my car.

Got to the dealership about an hr later and was informed that the dealership owners son saw the car and wanted it but they told us we got several more that you can choose from.

We left and I got another color car (same model and make) with more features and a better price at another dealership across town.

I never worked in car sales, but I've been in sales my entire life.
I would imagine, your commitment and deal on the vehicle was done via the internet or over the phone, since you said you were 2 hrs away.
As you are finalizing your deal, another sales rep is on a test drive in the vehicle with a potential buyer or possibly test drove it the day before you committed to buy it. They show back up and buy the vehicle.

Thankfully, It's a little uncommon. I would be willing to bet, if you've been in sales long enough, regardless of the industry, you will see it happen more than once or twice. It happens - especially in your case when there is only 1 of that item in inventory.

Just 2 sales reps, selling the same thing at the same time.
No conspiracy - just timing

In the real estate world, that's when the sale goes into multiple offers.

I legit got pissed off with the crew at Bayou Nissan last week and walked out. Advertise their Frontiers for $38k and wait until you're at the financing table to show you all of the bullshite fees they want to tack on. Nearly $60k after all of that and financing - I walked out. Screw em.

I was on the other side of this scenario about a month ago. Wife wanted a white Yukon like every other suburban white woman in this world and it was really hard to find. Ended up finding one about 3.5 hours away, salesman was actually honest though and told us someone had already put a deposit on it with a deadline of noon. Calls me back a little after noon and the customer hadn't responded so we got in the car and started driving down there.

Shortly after, he calls back and says customer called the GM and was pissed off they were selling his car . Felt like karma was going to come back and get me so we said cool, they can have it. Ended up finding and buying one from somewhere else.

I bought a new fridge last year from local appliance/furniture store thinking I would help supporting local business and better service… they delivered me the dinged up floor model but I paid price for new fridge and they never said it would be floor model. I guess they wouldn’t think I would notice. Told them to take that bitch back and get me one new in box. Should have just gone to Home Depot at that point but they ordered me one and delivered the new one with the wrap still on it.
