it doesn't seem remotely feasible, but as a thought experiment, is it even possible?

fyi: this thread was the byproduct of a thought experiment re: the previous thread about improving new orleans.

And send them where? I love the idea of sending criminals out, especially in NOLA. I just don't see Jefferson parish or neighboring parishes appreciating that.

in terms of the thought experiment, it could be only applied to specific charges such as second degree murder, manslaughter, rapes, etc.

The Brits shipped the convicts to Australia back in the day. LINK
quote:

The last convict ship, the Hougoumont, left Britain in 1867 and arrived in Western Australia on 10 January 1868. In all, about 164,000 convicts were transported to the Australian colonies between 1788 and 1868 on board 806 ships.

They already have bans for sex offenders, transients (hobo's, homeless), stuff like that. All it takes is adding categories to those bans and push them outside incorporated areas (rural areas).

Last time I checked there are no rights to food, clothing, and shelter. Want those things? Don't be a criminal to suffer a ban. Really simple idea.
