Spin off thread from yesterday. A poster asked if anyone had an opinion of Rheem equipment. Question for the OT, which HVAC manufacturer do you recommend and why?

Trane or American Standard

Trane/American Standard is currently the bee-knees from what people in the business I trust say.

my last unit was a trane and it sucked from start to finish. I replaced it with a lennox a couple of years ago and have been completely satisfied to this point.
honestly, I think the major difference in all units is how good a job the installers do. regardless of what you buy, be damn sure you get someone who will install it correctly.

I bought a Trane 4 months ago and have been happy.
I got it from Butcher in Lafayette. Also, very pleased with them.

Whatever you decide don't buy Bryant. Had to replace the air handler after only six years. Next time I'll go with Trane. Everyone I know has had good luck with them.

All Hvacs systems no matter who makes them are lasting 6-7 years now. cost 5 to 7 k per unit, so HVAC now cost about 1k a year. the old shitty systems used to last 10-15 years, the one on my was is from 87. lol

Trane 10 years ago was awesome. But I hate the new aluminum coils and plastic housing air handlers. Right now Rheem or ruud is by far my favorite.

What the hell was I downvoted for, we got some Bryant fan boys in here?

I buy what my AC guy recommends.
He is a Rheem and Rudd contractor so that what 40 of my rental properties have.

this is probably as much or more important than the brand you buy.
Goodman is generally considered junkish. An AC guy made a the point that it's not that Goodman is so terrible, it's that they sell to anyone with money. As a result, you get homeowners and jake-legs installing those units who either don't know or don't care what their doing. Whereas Trane/AS is pretty strict who they let install/buy their products.

Trane or Carrier

My dad installed Trane and Goodman. It really depended on what the customer wanted. Trane seemed to be the better product, he had to attend classes to stay certified to work on Trane systems. I don't believe he had to do any of that for the Goodman side.
The Goodman machines always seemed to have coil problems. That has been nearly 10 years ago now though. Regardless of what you get, you have to make sure that the person that you hire knows what they are doing.

Goodman & Amana are built by the same Japanese-owned company. (Daikin)
