Gentlemen....let's talk about humidors.

I'm considering getting into the game. I'm wanting to store about 25-50 cigars. Typically I'll be smoking probably 1 per week (sometimes more, sometimes less). I keep my house anywhere from 71 -73 degress on average in the summer.

I think what I'm looking for advice on is what brand and price range should I be looking at? Also, how hard is it going to be to maintain the correct humidity level (68-70% from what I've read although that might differ in this state which is another thing I would like to get your guys opinions on)?

Any info is appreciated.

Do you want a humidor who's sole purpose is to maintain the humitiy of your cigars? Get a decent cedar lined humidor on the cheaper side of what you are willing to pay. If your humidor is going to be in the main living area of the house, you might want to invest in a nicer furniture quality finish humidor.
Be sure to season your new humidor. NIce write up about humidors

cigars international humidors

Has some small humidors that have been reviewed a bunch.

I have a medium sized humidor (way too fricking big for me. I smoke maybe once or twice a month), that is actually decent from Quality Importers. It's not the best, but it gets the job done and it looks nice as it sits in my butler's pantry.

Just make sure to calibrate the hygrometer (see how to online. It's pretty easy) so you know if the reading is off. Mine came with the humidor is about 4% low.

And obviously season a cedar lined one if it calls for it and make sure you do a weekly or semi-monthly check of the humidity to add distilled water (or a propylene glycol mix) to keep it in check. Buy some xykar crystals too.

Also remember that buying cigars in bulk is way fricking cheaper than buying them individually at a tobacco shop, so if you find one you like, check out cigars international. Actually, just buy everything from there as they have the best deals I've ever seen. They have you pick ems from top brands for something like $3 and $4 a stick. Something like that. You pick five sets of two out of 10 or so brands they are offering that month.

I can't direct you to any particular article, but here, join us if you might.
This is The Cedar Room on our Cigar Weekly Community Forums and Discussion Groups. We have years worth of threads on all manner of cigar accessories.

Bottom line is this :
* you want to hear a "whoosh" when you close the lid, as air comes out of the tight seal.
* you want a "piano hinge" that goes across the entire back side of the lid, and not small hinges on the corner
* you may want a more accurate digital hygrometer (you'll find suggestions) as the little analog one that comes with your humidor will be inaccurate. You can dial it in, but it takes work and has to be re-calibrated.

Good luck. You'll outgrow it.

Get yourself some Boveda packs and you won't have to worry about the humidity. Check them every now and then and replace them when they're dried out.

So that brings up another question that I've come across on all this which I was perusing the other board for, but I'll bring it up to.

Do things like those boveda packs and the humidification balls work in addition to the little plastic humidifier that comes with the humidor or do they replace it?

In addition. I prefer the xikar gel to the boveda packs because boveda packs dry out so quickly. I read somewhere there's a way to revive them, but I can't remember where I did or how they did it.

I use 2 of the bigger 73 Boveda's in 50 stick humidor and it works fine. I don't use the plastic humidifier that came with it. I'd buy 2 of the 84 Boveda's and put them in there for 2 weeks to season it first. Mine lasts about 2 months before I have to replace them.

Like the guy above says, you can recharge Boveda's. Just go look on YouTube.
