I'm just wondering what the OT has to say on this matter. Thinking of Christmas gift ideas and I think the min age is 11 for plastic toy handgun. Is that too young?

Uh... Any.

Kids have no need for a handgun, shotgun/deer rifle sure. No reason for a handgun though

Why in the world would you give a kid a handgun. If he's turning 18 or 21 sure. If he's turning 11, get him a fricking BB gun.

I don't care how much you teach an 11 yr old about saftey. They will play with a hand gun no matter what. Make sure you emphasize unloading and clearing.

It is a great idea if you live in Mandeville. He has to be able to protect himself from the thugs at St Paul and MHS.

I'd say 21. Why do they need a handgun?

If you really want to do that, gift the handgun to the parent. The kid will learn how to shoot on it, the parents can control it, and everyone wins.

Shotgun or rifle when they turn 10.
I think the pistol should wait until they are 14.

maybe one that shoots .22 would be alright. All these other people make it sound like you buying .500 S&W for a teeny 11 year old

I got one (a Ruger .22 revolver) when I was 13, but I grew up in the country where that kind of shite was normal. These days are a bit different... I do let my 12 y.o. shoot that very gun, but it ain't his.
