Here lies the issue. When one starts getting more action, jealousy will come out. In most cases it may be easier for a woman to find some desperate man, but when the guy sleeps with a younger and prettier girl, shite will hit the fan.
You also got to find single people your age, or couples in an open relationship, or it will just be sleeping with someone not in an open relationship.

I would wager that at least half the posters in this thread are either hooking up with a side piece ...or "are" the side piece.

considering "monogamy" is a relatively new concept, in the grand scheme of it all, to humans, and that for millions and millions of years our predecessors had a main goal of procreating with many different mates to populate their group as much as possible to help with hunting and gathering.... it's not a bad idea...
of course, my wife probably feels differently...

Hominins, our predecessors are believed to have been around as far back as about 6 million years ago.... "humans" have been around a couple of hundred thousand, at most....

So explain to me how these are considered "progressive" folks? It just sounds like a cop out for people who suck at being committed, respectful, and decent human beings. These are probably the type of people who think they have to feel in love every second of a marriage/relationship all the time everyday always, and if not, then they want to leave/divorce.

Umm, I believe that is exactly what it means - that you love the person less. Because I'm married and I respect my spouse, I don't put myself in situations where I might "get drunk and sleep with someone else." I also don't get trashed on work trips and put myself in a situation where an OT 10 is begging for sex from me. Why? Because I love my spouse and she deserves better than that.

the open relationship thing was really big in my friend circle in 2009 timeframe. Every single couple ended up breaking up, except for the one where he could sleep with guys and she could sleep with ladies. they are still together but apparently don't date outside much.
I think it can work with the right people, but that is the minority. The end of all the relationships were when either the female got jealous of the open ended relationship.
