Why are you people still here then, I mean seriously? If the country is so bad, then get the frick out.
It isn't a matter of liking or disliking the country. I love living here. There are some great aspects to the USA. There are also some incredibly problematic aspects that get overshadowed by the "land of the free" rhetoric that really need to be addressed.

Criticizing the often in your face irony of saying that you "live in the land of the free" is healthy.

Now, I will admit that doing on a day like July 4th is probably in poor taste.

And yes, I'm not talking in the 3rd person. I have the freedom to not do that today.

Who said this country was so bad? I just said it isn't head-and-shoulders above the rest.

All I can think of is he may be referring to the US giving up some perceived autonomy with the League of Nations.

Well no, that's not correct. We didn't join the League of Nations because the U.S. Senate would not ratify the Treaty of Versailles peace treaty ending WWI.

The Republican leadership of the Senate was suspicious of the League of Nations and was opposed to the possibility of giving up U.S. autonomy over its own foreign policy. Isolationists believed the League was the sort of entangling alliance the George Washington warned against in his Farewell Address.

Maybe you are thinking of the United Nations after WWII? We see how effective that has been.

I go by the declaration so 238 years but that's pretty damn ironic these days considering we are not free much. shite, we don't even own the land our house is built on thanks to property taxes.
