I'm so glad that I was born into a land that was the ultimate object of the grand imperialist's affections.

Freedom!

We did. Manifest Destiny. Then we paid them like $10 million and gave it back to them for some reason... Bet the Indians are pretty pissed about that one.

The Vikings were dumb, they got their fricking asses kicked by the Red man that owned America. Pale face out.

Rich, smelly, white Imperialists had a better plan. Disease.

So that marks the 225 birthday of the US constitution.

In its current configuration, this is correct. But the colonial succession was the key event that paved the way.

Hell of a post. Happy birthday, America. I think we are living in the pinnacle of human existence. If we weren't around to see it and understand it our minds would explode from the innovation of just the last 100 years. We're some of the luckiest people to ever walk the face of the earth

Do people really believe all of this shite?

Last I checked, the British Pound was crushing the dollar, the Euro, not far behind. The USD is on par with Canada's currency. Lol.

Our country has serious problems. I'm still proud to be an American because, well, I was born here and I love my country. My overall insignificance as a person doesn't change though. What the frick am I going to do to change the value of the USD against the euro? Not a fricking thing. I'm still pretty glad to be sitting here smoking a really nice tobacco and writing this message on the fricking computer I keep in my pocket though, which is why I am still of the belief that we are extremely fricking lucky to just be alive when we are alive.

You should have a cup of tea, some fish n chips, and then bend the knee to the Queen Mother. I dont see any fences up keeping you here.

I have a Masters in History, plus 45+ years of experience. This country is NOTHING like what was envisioned by the men of 1776 (except, perhaps, in their worst nightmares). The everyday intrusion by this government into every facet of life makes George III seem like a piker by comparison. The "freedom" we claim to have today would seem nothing but a gilded slavery to them. "Liberty" is an illusion.

And before others say "it's so much better here," I am not comparing our comfortable oppression to that of other countries. I am talking about what this country was founded on in 1776, versus what it is today.

I know this post will probably not be received well. But oh well, i will have to say about 51 years old. Going back to 1963 when the civil rights act was passed. Before this point this country was just a racist shithole. I am so glad and blessed to have grown up in the era i did. An era where i can truly say the sky is the limit not only for me but any and all citizens. I love my country for what it is now, not what it used to be.

God bless Murica

I do. You can't just show up in developed nation states and demand to be let in.

I like it here as well, I'm just not about to put the old USA head-and-shoulders above all other nations.

I've been to countries on every inhabited continent, developed and undeveloped, and there is no other country I'd rather call home. I guess it's not for everyone, though.

Many Germans say the same thing. Weird they are most comfortable where they are from, where their family is.

I happen to be one of the people that doesn't think it really matters all that much in this day and age. National lines are fading.

Those Scandinavian countries seem pretty nice, and everyone there is really happy.

It's a matter of perspective.

Scruffy likes where he is and likes Louisiana, Texas, and a few other states, but he doesn't do the whole "America rah rah" thing. To each their own.
