Bunch of lazy people trying to over inflate the X's in my opinion. That's my theory on LSU Houston weekend.

Our driver told us that she got calls all night long from people in Tigerland, and then they'd cancel the rides right as she showed up.

There's a special place in hell for people who drunkenly call for rides and then hop in people's car on a regular basis.

Just got back from SF and the Uber App there has a button at the bottom that allows ride sharing. The car drives around and picks up multiple riders with closely located destinations. The riders all split the care evenly. Would be great for game days and I hope they add it here soon. Using the Share feature was totally optional. Driver did NOT like it though. In their view, more individual riders equals more fares. I can see their point.

Honestly, I walked like a mile from Fred's in order to make myself easier to get to and to make the ride shorter.

I think $21 to go less than 2 miles when the game has been over for hours is insane.

I understand the inflation, and I went in knowing it would occur. But that's a bit much.

Thing is, Jones and I don't have YellowCab problems for the most part. We have been calling cabs for years, and they always treat us right. We've had a couple weirdo/dickhead drivers, and like 1 instance where we waited forever for a cab, but generally they come right to us. We purposely leave busy areas if we can.. and purposely call before 2am. Never have issues.

A cab from that intersection to his house would have been MAYBE $6.
$6 vs. $21 pushes the question of whether it's worth it.

Like I said, I adored Uber in Houston. And I am sure I'll love it in BR at times. But gameday? Nah. We will just stay at my place on gameday so we can walk home.

...?

Uber takes a %. It doesn't matter if they're split or together. It's still X percent.

I thought the drivers can rate riders? Wouldn't doing that end up with people not getting selected for rides?

In DC all my uber drivers were also Lyft drivers. I thought it was kind of unethical.

Uber just got to BR. These people probably don't have the profiles yet.

I'm sure (or I hope) she rated them poorly.

Either way, people do this shite to regular cab drivers too and it infuriates me because it factors into making rides harder for those who will actually use it.

Problem is, a cab driver can just snag someone else if they show up and the caller is gone. An Uber driver can't pick up someone without an account (and who is too drunk to make an account).

That's why I took Lyft.

The guy who brought us to Reliant told us he's also a Lyft driver and gave us a promo code.

Since we had already gotten two free Uber rides, we were excited. I was picked up immediately right outside the stadium, and my ride was free. Even less people know about Lyft, which was great.

We picked up Berg on the way home!

So it just goes up according to an event or something?

No, it goes up in response to there being fewer drivers than riders with no regard to when or why the shortage occurs. It really is simple supply and demand and it attempts to ensure that the number of drivers available matches the number of people willing to ride at the current price. When a shortage of drivers begins to happen, Uber raises the price for a ride. This encourages more drivers to hop into their cars and reduces the number of riders by eliminating those who don't want to pay the surge pricing. After all, if a ride is going for $300, drivers are going to want to get in in that, and anyone who really wants a ride and is willing to pay is guaranteed a ride. That you should always be able to get a ride, though it might cost you, is one of the great ideas with Uber. Once the number of drivers and number of riders balances back out, the system automatically scales back the surge pricing and returns to normal.

Not unethical because they're technically independent contractors, if this were to be argued by either Lyft or Uber then they'd have all kinds of hell on their hands

BS. You couldn't get anything outside Reliant. It was an absolute ghost town for cabs. You must have paid through the roof.

NVM. You said to Reliant.

3 individual riders at $10 ride each makes $30 for drivers.

3 people riding together and splitting the fare equally equals $3.33 each and a total $10 ride.

Uber is pushing the ride share as being "Green". Drivers just see it as less revenue.

This is true.

I haven't wait at ALL with Uber. Even the other night, the driver was on Burbank hanging out her window yelling, "LL?!" until we found her

I think you have to look at Uber as a luxury. It's an alternative to cabs that the more fortunate people can take. Just like any alternative that is for people who don't have to deal with the shite that poors deal with

You can luck out and get Uber mega cheap too. Or free. But don't take Uber trying to out-price YellowCab. It's out-servicing, not out-pricing.

Both.

Uber to Reliant was free.

Lyft from Reliant was free. I tailgated for like 40 minutes after the game, but there were still plenty people trying to get rides when we jut waited 5 minutes for our Lyft.

That's how we found Berg. He was begging people for rides

So wait, since there were no Uber rides to be found after the game...that means people were paying hundreds of dollars to get a ride?

I'm sorry but that's just BS. We had to wait 1.5 hours and still paid $150 for 5 people from Reliant to Galleria.

Even if I hadn't had credits with Lyft, my ride would have been $22. And it was a 7 mile, 17 minute ride. So I don't mind that.

Of course, Lyft=/=Uber.

People are saying they paid out the arse for Uber. I have zero idea.
