Here is my problem, I don't like to spend money on a rock that cost $1.75 to dig out the ground. Luckily I met a woman have similar values and does not want me spending $8-10K on a ring, but I feel like she would be a tad disappointed if I didn't.

She has talked about getting just a band and that's all we need. We both have close to 6 figures in student debt after grad school. She rather us save money towards a house.

Realistically, I can probably source a decent ring. I know 3 jewelers through both families, but not close enough to either to get a kin folk deal.

What's the expectation for two people late 20s, early 30s with wedding rings?

That'd be a $30,000 ring. Not happening.

Buy a nice Zirconia stone. Only you two need to know.

Save for the house and pay off student loans.

She doesn't want you to spend a lot on a ring. Don't. If you don't believe her, then don't marry the liar that you don't trust. If you do spend a lot, your marriage is already not starting out right since you're doing something that both of you know is foolish.

Talk to her. Decide together. Do what you decide together.

Get a CZ and put it in a Tiffiney's box. Save the rest of the money to spend on whores for when your old lady immediately stops giving you BJs.

10K will buy a very nice ring, and it seems you can afford that amount.

But CaptainsWafer gave the best advice. Don't get hung up on what people tell you what you should spend. Talk to your wife, and if she is truly not asking you to break the bank, then that's all that matters.
