Currently renting a house and was just notified that rent is going up - looks like about 2.1%.

Sounds about right. I think at my previous apartment it was 4%.

Depends on the market.

Usually ours go up $10-$20 but not every year.

Mine is going ~$1,500 to ~$1,800. HOA fees went up, though...

I pay $1,400 for a one bedroom, 1,200 sq ft townhouse in Nashville.

Its really nice though and was a two bedroom that the previous owner combined into one gigantic bedroom. Perfect for the wife and I as we look for a home to purchase.

My landlord fricking loves me. He would never up the rent on me. I take care of that place like its my own and never once asked him for one thing or bothered him. Rent comes on the 1st each month.

2.1% is basically just inflation. No big deal.

Who bitches about a 2% increase? Jesus what would you think is acceptable if 2% is too high?

I've been at the same place about 2 years and have had no increases.

I rented a three-bedroom house on Carrollton/Nelson from 2011-2012 and when I moved out they increased the rent from $1250/mo to $2100/mo.

Thanks for the real responses. First time renting a place like this for consecutive years so never really encountered what normal increase should be.

You seem upset. I'd like to invite you to go ahead and point out any bitching or anything really that would cause someone to respond like that.

Asked a simple question and posted what my increase was. Experience tells me it's always best to ask about these types of things to ensure I'm not getting screwed over.
