I don't know how much it would take but it'd have to be a very good bump in pay. I used drive 50 minutes each way and it sucked so I moved closer. I'd only take the hour and half job if I knew I'd end up moving fairly soon

I sincerely hope that type of commuting is behind me. Adding two (often more) extra round-trip hours of commuting to my work day was miserable.

I would probably need to have my salary doubled and even then would only do it for a year then find something closer to home.

An extra hour away from the family? I'd take a pay cut.

Washington DC was the worst. I lived 20 miles from work and it would take me over 2 hours to get home on Fridays

You just described Baton Rouge traffic on a bad day.

Looking at 8-3 going from Gonzales to North Baton Rouge and an extra 9k a year. Did the gas figures for what I pay now and I will go up 800 more a year.

Not familiar with that commute but if it's stop and go the whole way I would need at least 50K, I assumed you were talking straight interstate. I would shoot myself in the head after the first week of that.

80 miles ~= 1.5 hours each way once you figure in the slowdown in speed once you get off the interstate. Figure you're already spending a half hour each way commuting in a city now.

Figure now, you're spending 9 hours a day to do your job. 8 working and 1 commuting. The numbers may vary, but that's a good starting point. That's going up to 11 hours a day with the additional commute. That's 22% more time every day. Figure 30% bump in pay to cover the time and aggravation.

EDIT: And that's just to figure what bump in salary I'd need to cover the time I'd spend in traffic. That's NOT considering the extra outlay every year in gas and wear and tear/depreciation on the vehicle. If they're not footing that bill, then we're probably getting closer to 40-50% increase in pay, depending on what the current starting pay rate is.

Edited original numbers because my math was shite. It might still be shite, but it was shite, too.

The 80 additional miles round trip is going to cost you between 2 and 5 gallons of gas, depending on your vehicle - so that's $4 to $14, per day. The balance would depend on how you value your time.

For me, I would need to gross $8 to $10 per hour before I even considered this a break even - particularly if it was going to be long-term or permanent.
