How much money would you spend to recover a pet?

I know I've seen this thread on here a few times before but now I find myself in the situation of deciding, how much money is too much money to spend on a pet?

I came home yesterday to find my 1 year old (to the day) cat with a very large gash down her side, leaving her stomach exposed. To me, it looked like an attack - like a dog or raccoon bit her and just ripped away that skin, but there was not a lot of blood. Just a clean pull/cut

After bringing her into the LSU Vet, they said it was more likely a sharp fence, etc. that sliced her right open. They went into surgery for 2-3 hours and stitched her up and installed a blood pump in the wound.

After seeing her last night, I am wondering if I made the right decision. She has 4 prescriptions, a blood pump that needs draining , has to wear a cone (and will NOT stay in it) and be secluded for a couple weeks.

They said it would be between 400-600 to fix her up, I had the cash available and went ahead and proceeded. So far, I'm $742 in (ER fee, prescriptions, one stay last night all factored in)...

what's your limit?

It would have to be around $10,000 and a very small chance of treatment success for me not to spend on them to live.

This is why I do not own pets

Don't own pets if you are not willing to care for them

Eh, 300. Maybe 500 if I was in a really good place financially.

return to a normal state of health, mind, or strength.

I am doing everything I can to care for her. Not complaining about it, just wondering what the cut off is for you personally. Apparently 0

And probably worth every penny!

I think I would spend more money on a dog than I would on a cat.

yep

People spend 50k on a car or truck they don't need. What's 10k for saving a loyal companion's life?

Would you buy a dog for $10,000? Serious question, are you loaded?

Just because other people spend money where they don't need to, doesn't mean you should. And I'm not saying it's a stupid decision for you. If it's worth it to you then dammit, it's not dumb at all.

I'm just so far in the other direction that it's hard to fathom spending that much money on a dog. I LOVE my dog. But I'd NEVER set myself back financially to save her.

For sure. I want to know that trick.

1K, but that was before my daughter became a Vet. Now, nothing. I get free house calls.

I spent almost $30k on a sick black lab in about a 2.5 year period. You can get the details in my past posts if you want the rundown.

She was the sweetest animal I've ever owned, and I've had a few over the years.

No unless I planned on buying a dog that was going to win competitions and money.
