It's about $11K for private school here in Maryland. Our public schools are pretty good, but the average 6th grade class is 30-35 kids. We thought it was worth the $11k for my son to be in a class of 20 and get more of the individual attention he needs. But I have friends with kids in the public schools and they do well; in this case it was just a better fit for my son's needs.

90% are certified teachers, they just have husbands that make $$$$. The extra 15K the government school pays isn't shite to them. They prefer to actually teach disciplined kids not babysit a bunch of bottom of the barrel delinquents.

Really? I did not know this.

the reason you didn't know it is because it's not true - at least in Houston.

This is definitely true in Lafayette, very much the rule.

Don't really have a private school option. Would have to send them out of town. Public schools here are pretty good.

If the public schools in your area are good, then go that route. Teachers at private schools are not required to be certified and make less than a public school teacher...which means they draw bottom of the barrel talent.

Private schools in most cases hire someone who specialized in that subject with a Masters degree

This.

My HS required all teachers to have a minimum of 30 college hours in their subject. The vast majority were degreed in their subject. Most had post-grad degrees in their subject.

But congrats on having your teenager being taught biology by an education major.

There are many good things from private schools but also many negatives. Social interaction is very limited in most most private schools to a, shall we say particular race. When these kids get to college, most won't know how interact.

Yeah, that's why CHS and SJA grads struggle so much in college and in their careers.

Nonsense.

Me and my brothers did as well. But only because our dad was the principal.

Yeah, anyone who knows anything about education dynamics in Baton Rouge and New Orleans - two of the most racially diverse cities in the country - knows that it's complete nonsense.

How do people justify these spends?

Are your public schools really THAT bad?

I make good money, but I can't see spending what amounts to a used or even new car buy every year just to avoid public schools.

try the equivalent of a small house note when you have multiple kids

but everyone has different priorities with their money so it won't work for everyone
