That lunch buffet at curry n kabab in Baton rouge is the best. I don't care if it makes me trashy. It's delicious.

Al-noor is good too. I don't understand the hate for buffets. Do people hate appetizer samplers too?

What if I don't want a full meal of one thing?

Whoa there chief. Alabama is in a league of its own when it comes to trashy. Y'all make the rest of us look positively cosmopolitan sometimes.

A lot of buffets are aimed at the poors but when someone makes blanket statements they come dangerously close to insulting brunch.

BRUNCH BUFFETS ARE AWESOME.

Geaux 'Murica.

As to the question, I go 10% with a min of $2 per person and have always felt that was fairly generous.

Hate to burst your bubble but for the following states...

Alabama
Mississippi
Arkansas
Louisiana

... most of the world not from one of those states lumps you in together with the other three as being redneck trash. It is what it is.

Brunch at the Roosevelt on Sunday is the Tits! It is expensive, but I can't say it is void of trashy people. There are always a few trashy/ride people everywhere you go. It's the culture of 2014.
10-20% is what I tip, although I haven't been to a non brunch buffet since Katrina when Ryan's was the only joint availible to a person of my patience.

The L'Auberge buffet isn't exactly trashy. It's not high class by any means, but not trashy. The Isle buffet is where it's at for trash. Or ya know, Ryan's.

And to answer the OP's question: Usually $2-3, depends on how attentive the "server" was. If they kept the drinks full and checked on us frequently, $5ish.

The Thanksgiving Buffet at Gaston's White River Resort in Arkansas is awesome.

Any buffet where little kids are serving themselves is likely to be disgusting. They put food on their plate and then put it back. They reload without getting a new clean plate. They sneeze on the food.

I can't tell you the last time I've had a buffet..

ETA: Bay Leaf! That's my last buffet. And it's good.

But this:

quote:

the receipt they has the tips worked out for me

.. is usually just a result of the POS and has nothing to do with the staff. I'm sure they can opt to take it off or whatever, but it isn't really something managers put a lot of thought into in my experience. It automatically printed on the receipt where I've worked, and I can't say we even noticed or cared. Certainly didn't play into what we thought we should be tipped.

Personally, I overtip. And I doubt I'd treat a buffet much differently.

I average 30%-40% at regular restaurants. Probably would do 20%-30% at a buffet.

On a trip to a middle of the road restaurant like Peche or Domenica you would put your waiter into the top 1% of wage earners with a 40% tip. Seems logical.
