Started with almost 17k, down to about 4200 less than three years after graduation. And yeah they bug the hell out of me too, but I only have a 3.75 interest rate so I'm not getting killed with interest

Aren't you in medical school though?

Won't most hospitals wipe it clean for you if you sign a contract with them?

Only 50k right now.

Still 3 more years of dental school left though..

I'll probably end with a little less than 200k

I actually work for the Department of Ed. The problem is ppl constantly getting forbearances which keeps adding interest (capitalized at that). Just find away to pay it or get on an income based payment plan.

I do not think you get much of a grace period while in residency either. Good luck

You get about 6months. You can do forbearance though.

Eh. Maybe. You tend to get these big signing bonuses if you sign a contract with hospitals in more rural areas or those who have trouble attracting physicians to the area. Usually there's a catch. They usually expect you to work "X" number of years and by so many years of working with them to bring in a certain amount of revenue for them. If you don't there may be reductions in salary(or receive less percentage of revenue) or requirement to pay back a portion of the original bonus, etc.

I'm up around $250,000 for now.

take the income based repayment plan. They take a certain % so you pay less while in residency. My plan is to join the navy once I am finished with med school and residency and use the signing bonus to pay off loans.
