strange confessions, unrelated to the OP you know.

so if she had taken a law firm job doing corporate law and voted for Romney, she would be your fave, eh?

what's her crime? caring about other people?

I know a guy that does weekends in Montgomery. He told me he makes 15k a year. Insanity.

The lead weatherman in a big market makes bank, though. Usually the highest paid on-air person at the station.

Not a lot. My oldest daughters upon her graduation from UNC, was a field reporter in Columbus, GA before getting a weekend anchor gig at WLEX in Ky ... it all lasted about five years. Then she went to law school at UCB in Calf and that was pretty much the last I've seen of her ... she went far leftwingnut libtard nutjob and I cut the money off.

So she has to be just like dad even politically? Glad you aren't my dad. His kids run the gamut from Jessie Jackson libs to John Bolton neocons and everything in between and he loves them all equally and is proud they can think for themselves.

One was even a local reporter when young and made not much but it was a first job as are a lot of them.

Sometimes they get trade on apartments, clothes, etc to help supplement the shitty income.

Former Lafayettte Newsman Larry Lunsford always said that the could get the best table at the nicest restaurant in town but couldn't afford to eat there.

I worked as a producer in a market just a bit bigger than BR back 20 years ago. I left in part because the money was so insanely bad. At the time I was making 17k.

My tipping point was when I went to get lunch one day at Taco Bell and realized that even with my bachelor's degree and 5 years experience, the dropout Assistant Manager made more than I did.

I haven't kept up with the industry, but it is insane to think the salaries have not budged one bit.

It's by no means the same as the main news, but my dad used to do sports on radio and local TV in his spare time. Made enough to have a vacation fund and stuff, but he had a full time job while doing it. I would be a lot of these people probably have other jobs.

Can't be much. Last year on the way to Destin we stopped & ate at this restaurant in Mobile. Struck up conversation with our waiter who had recently moved back to AL from Lafayette where he was a weatherman on the local news.

Likely because it takes little skill to get in front of the camera and talk. It just takes experience

My first job offer out of college was to be a weekend sports anchor in San Angelo and they offered $18k. This was in 2011.

I decided to go the radio route instead, made $12 an hour producing an afternoon drive sports radio show in Dallas.

Anchors of that caliber make about 35-40k. Producer and reporters make far less. The only people that make real money are prime time anchors.

This is the case. The news anchors and meteorologists and perhaps the sports anchor are the only ones making money.

Most sales people are out earning the news team. It's why I moved over to the sales side of the industry, thats where the money is

However a new position - the traffic anchor - seems to be paying more these days. All you have to do to get that job is look hot - they just pick attractive women to fill those roles.

I'm in that boat right now. I work at a small market making a pitiful salary. I've done some digging and unless you're in a Top 10 market, the wage increase is only marginal. I work shite hours (evenings, I hate it), all holidays and deal with constant deadline pressure.. all for even shittier pay. I'm currently working to get out of the business altogether.

Apparently, a lot of people in journalism quit to become teachers because the pay is so much higher. Imagine that.

I graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism in 2014 - and most of the job offers paid between 22,000-28,000.

And the pay doesn't increase that much until you hit a major market. Combine that with the both terrible and long hours, and a lot of poor management I decided to go a different route altogether.

I still do a podcast and freelance write for Rivals.com, and a little bit of TV, but it's all for fun, because the pay is absolutely atrocious. Very happy with my decision and would offer the same to anyone else.

Have noticed a trend of several experienced people leaving the business altogether as well. At the end, it's just not worth it.

My wife finished LSU with a degree in broadcast journalism and worked at WAFB before she left to be a teacher.

Her pay doubled. Think about that.
