Depends where they work and how good they are, how they hustle, etc. A guy might make $160k and another guy at the same dealership can make $30k.

If you're going to sell cars, used is the way to go. New cars generally have very little markup, trucks and suvs are a different story. Used cars as a rule have a good markup. Just look at private sales versus trade in value for an idea.

On average id say 40k, but some make 30k and some make 100K +.

That's what I do but I find, buy, recondition, remarket, and resale my own stuff.

It's pretty easy to hit 30k a year on 10 to 20 hours per week if you're as good as me and don't have overhead. If I worked more hours, took more risks and moved more volume, I could probably double that in a 40 hour week. 100k per year would be what a sales manager at a new car store may hit working 70 hour weeks. I would just guess a busy used car store with a 50-60 hours a week salesman is probably 35-50k based on my experience in the industry.

A good salesman at a big dealership can easily make $120K a year.
