GAD?

Crazy enough for you? Enough about me.

Katy people can relate.

We saw the old guy (50-60) who rides his bicycle around I-10 and Hwy99 area wrapped in christmas lights. That guy is GONE... But still has enough on the ball to panhandle and have a battery pack for his light.

My mother-in-law is a pathological liar. She's egotistical to a point that she has a God complex. She's ruined at least 2 families that I know of and tries to meddle in ours. I've learned to keep her at arms' length and to keep her time with my kids to a minimum.

Go on. Tell us about how she ruined families, if you don't mind.

Is there a great deal of chaos, divorce or abuse in your family? Most with borderline pd result from environmental conditions growing up.

The only divorcees are the ones that show signs of the disorder. I know there is some evidence of enviromental causes for the disorder, but it seems to be genetic in our case.

One that worked near me. He would just go off on women. Cussing and all kinds of crap. He was like 50 and a secretary. Former military too.

Finally, he cussed out somebody that didn't know he was completely nuts and they sent him to a regional office at the corner of the Parish.

Guy was legit nuts. It's amazing they let him stay there for 20 years.

At least 1.. My older sister. She was Most Attractive in high school.. Graduated with A/B average from lsu..used to be very social. She was living at my dad's house, then slowly became more reclusive and wouldn't leave the room. She's been to hospitals and various other places, given medicine, no one knows what to do about her. Once she ran off and was an inch from being homeless had a police officer and my mom not convinced her to go to my moms house.

Now she is 31 and lives in a room at my moms..never talks to anyone or comes out unless no one is there. My mom leaves food for her outside the door and she barely eats it. If you try to knock on the door to talk to her, she usually quietly says "I'm too tired" or something. My mom also gets scathing texts that don't make much sense every now and then.

I could go on and on.. I think she's schizophrenic or has some sort of psychosis. But no one knows what to do.

Failure to launch. Fear of growing up.

Not to be a dick, but it sounds like your folks enable this a bit. Leaving food outside the door is strange behavior as I sincerely doubt she will choose to starve if forced to find her own food. Sounds attention craving, more than anything.

My advice, tell your family to stop coddling her and get her out of the house before a lifetime of dependency is certain.

But in all fairness I'm pretty sure my son thinks I'm crazy.

Isn't the better question "How many truly, absolutely, 100% sane people do you know?"

This thread is sad. As someone who's suffered from depression/anxiety, and drug use for years, I can't imagine what my family says about me.

Standard response. You don't think we've tried the "get a job" approach?

Not sure if it counts, but I know a couple of legit sociopaths. Very frightening when you really see how they operate.

I think there is a vast ocean of approach and response between "Get a job" AND "Your food is at the door"

I was not trying to minimize her situation, but rather trying to point out how certain responses to behavior can further stunt people with mental health issues. You're just giving her one more reason to remain in isolation when you make the isolation simpler.

Bump.

Interviewed a guy today. Knew he was a psych patient by meds. Previous surgery include repairing his twice cut throat. Slashed his own throat count?

Sounds like legit mental illness to me. Not someone feeling sorry for themselves.
