The WWII letter thread made me wonder how common it is these days to see US military personnel with non-US medals or qualification badges.

Exchange jumps are still common. I haven't seen anything from Iraqi or Afghan governments as far as awards to US service members.

ETA: Forgot about the various proficiency badges...Germany has one.

For whatever reason, I never had any desire to try to earn foreign awards. I was stationed in Germany and a lot of guys were obsessed with it, but it didn’t appeal to me.

Mostly officers get foreign awards.

The Kuwait Liberation medal was pretty common back in the 90s. Kuwait and Saudi Arabia both issued a Kuwait Liberation medal to US military personnel.

I have one medal issued by the Kingdom of Kuwait and one by the Kingdom of Saud. Probably 400 thousand or so were given out. So pretty common.

I also have the Louisiana War Cross. I'm proud of it.

Most of us have NATO ISAF or another NATO medal

There was a specialized German qual course offered here last year where they could earn some tab. If I remember correctly it was entirely physical fitness based

I think everyone who served in or around Vietnam got a doo-hickey from the Republic of Vietnam.

Common to see German badges since they have a lot of instructors over here in our schools.

So you're saying you couldn't hang with the studs who got it? Everytime I hear a Joe say "It doesn't appeal to me", it just means they didn't have the conviction or determination to put forward the extra effort and get it.

Thanks for serving and your dedication to duty, but please don't try to pull your motor pool BS on here that something challenging didn't appeal to you.

And yes, I have mine and I wear it with pride. It is one of the more common ones of something that isn't very common.

I have a ROK Presidential Unit Citation that was awarded to my division (2ID) for the forgotten "crab war" incident. It always got questions during inspections.

This is it:
