So my smoke alarm in my attic decided to give out battery wise. I changed the battery out the morning of my recent surgery to make sure I didn't have to go up there. Well its chirping and its a bitch to get to. It's been since last night and still chirping. I can't get up there till I heal up from my two incisions. How long till it gives out and shuts off?

Yep. Until you do the reset procedure.

You shouldn't have a battery back up smoke detector in you're attic in the first place. Other than that, you're on you're own.

Yeah. I have 12 cold wired detectors but have battery back ups in all bed rooms and halls ( code). The weirdest thing is they only chirp at 4-5 in the AM and chirp for and hr or two and then shut up until the next AM. Shitty part is I have 14' ceilings and don't have a ladder to get to the one in the master

There are people I just hate asking. If it wasn't such a bitch to get to and hot as hell I'd ask. Might have to break down and ask. Thought if it was just a few days I'd just wait it out

A shotgun will take care of that.

That seems more than a little strange. I can't imagine worrying about smoke detectors because of impending surgery.

It'll stop when your house burns down.
I hope you get out ok. Good luck.

It was time to change them soon. I was hoping to avoid this issue knowing I'd be out 4-6 weeks with the two cuts.

The living room ceiling in our new house is about 20+ feet tall, and there is a smoke detector on it. When it inevitably starts chirping one night at 2AM, my wife has already been warned that I will literally shoot it to shut it up.
