Ask her if she needs anything. Find out what she likes (Starbucks) that sort of thing. And drop one off "on the way by".
Be seen, but don't overdo it right away.

Don't ask her out. Just ask her to go for a walk.
Indirect is not a bad tack. Something like, "Hey, I'm going to ___ tomorrow. Care to join me?" No pressure that way; just an invitation to meet up and do something you may have been planning to do anyway.

Did you know this baw? How did he die? How long did they date? If it was a considerable amount of time she is a trashy bitch if she jumps in the sack with you this week.

Exactly how much did you have to do with the fellow's demise??

No, but it's a fine line to walk. Push too hard she bolts, too much distance she's going to find someone else.
Hence the be seen, but not pushy right away. After a time or 3 of "do you need anything" you'll get a signal to proceed or back off.
So pay attention.

Bring her a casserole and let one thing lead to another.

If they dated for less than 8 months its free game. 8 months to 2 years give it 2-4 weeks. 2+ years you need to move in immediately to be the shoulder to cry on.
I actually watched some show years ago about the amount of marriages 9/11 ruined because guys went to "care" for the widowed spouses of their deceased friends.

Sweet girl. Great family
If you are going out with her to "comfort her" because of the death, you can act within a few days. If you are moving in on the poon too early, it might come across creepy. It will take a level of finesse in your game.

I would think a lot depends on how long they were together.

Too late, she was already banging another dude before the bf passed.

None of this happened, so doesn't matter.

After my dad passed away, my mom was dating her now husband less than a month after, probably closer to two weeks after. A few weeks after they started dating dude told my mom he didn't appreciate me being disrespectful because I didn't say hello to him every time he came over. I told her to tell him if he feels that way then don't come over.. That was the beginning of a lot of problems.
