Why don’t we just change it :30 minutes and leave it alone. Would that satisfy all? I would settle for it

Being able to sleep later before crawling into the deer stand would be amazing.

Agree, Baw. We gotta be careful with the plants. They could revolt.

Here’s the real problem. Our time zone boundaries are fricked up in the name of business and television markets. West Texas, Saskatchewan, and the high plains have no business being in Central Time. Likewise, Michigan SHOULD be on Central, but they want Detroit aligned with the New York and the Northeast.

France and the UK should be in the same zone as the Prime Meridian perfectly cuts through both. But again it’s business and historical significance of the rivalry of France and the British Empire before they became allies.

Time zones ideally should be 15 degrees wide, but here we are with parts of West Texas in the same time zone as Panama City, Florida.

My favorite is China.

All one time zone on Beijing time. Some parts of western China are 5 hours ahead of their border countries.

I've always said a compromise would be fine, DST b/t Memorial Day and Labor Day, Standard Time the rest of the year.

Just think if we tried in addition to the hour that we move now, that we eek out another Daylight Saving shift between those dates in the summer in the southeastern parts of the time zones to get those 9 pm sunsets. We can call it double daylight saving time.

That way the sun comes up at approximately 6:30 year round and doesn’t go down until the length of the day for that part of the year.

Fun facts of DST from the BBC:

quote:

Double British summertime

In 1940 the clocks weren't put back at the end of summer, so we stayed an hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). In spring 1941 the clocks were still put forward an hour, meaning we were TWO hours ahead of GMT. It was the middle of World War Two, so all the extra evening daylight gave people longer to get home before the blackout. The government also hoped it would save fuel. Lighter evenings means darker mornings - something that can be problematic in the far northern parts of the UK. They were eventually put back in 1947.

quote:

British Standard Time

In 1968 a similar experiment was tried. The clocks were put forward and not put back again until October 1971, keeping the UK on GMT+1 for three years. It was called British Standard Time, presumably because calling it British Summer Time all year round seemed silly. Nobody could really tell if it had a positive effect though, so parliament voted to get rid of it in 1970. Several members of parliament have since tried to reintroduce British Standard Time, but none have succeeded.

quote:

The bombing that was stopped by daylight saving

In 1999 four would-be terrorists loaded two bombs into two cars. The bombs were set to go off at 6.30pm. Their intention was to load the bombs onto the luggage racks of two intercity buses before hopping off and driving away. They armed the bombs in a Palestinian area. Their targets were in Israel. Israel had turned the clocks back a day before but the bombers hadn't noticed the difference. The bombs blew up at 5.30pm local time while still in their cars, killing the bombers.

The idea of keeping DST permanently is stupid. Just abolish it and adjust schedules accordingly.

My favorite time of the day during the summer is within the 7PM hour. The day starts to cool off (well not be as hot, its not really cool)..

More people are outside, more shite just seems to be going on.. That would be shite if that hour was pushed up.. Keep DST.

My selfish reasoning: I'm pro-standard time year round, but then again I'm usually up and working by 5am. Delivering freight at 8am in the dark because of DST in winter would be absolutely stupid.
Give me earlier sunsets and earlier sunrises - i'm usually in the bunk trying to sleep at 8p, it'd be nice to get the truck cooled down sooner for that.

The bus picks up our kids up at 5:45 a.m. It’s dark regardless of the time of year.

I’m convinced that folks who want DST year round must be fricking bums… who the hell wants it to stay dark outside until 8:00AM? And yea, I’m judging. It’s freaking horrible waking up every day when it’s still pitch black outside. Let’s keep sunrise before 7:00AM so the productive population can actually wake up with the sun. Stretches with a 6:15 sunrise are the best… 8:00 sunrise is a joke

Sounds like you are the fricking bum who needs the sun to be productive
